When you talk about the word “detox”, this is actually short for the work detoxification. This is how the body naturally, in an ongoing process tries to neutralize or even eliminate toxins that the body is building up.

What is a Toxin?

Toxins ( this can be anything that can harm the bodies tissues) are transformed chemically to a less harmful product. These compounds are then removed or excreted by using the bathroom in our stools (fecal matter) or even in our urine.

What is a detox diet?

Most of the time detox is known for the treatment of drugs or alcohol problems. This detox can also be used to refer to diets, herbs and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body. When this happens this can provide optimum health.

A detox diet is typically a short term diet. What this does is to minimize the amount of chemicals that are ingested. It also emphasizes which foods that are going to provide vitamins, antioxidants and nutrients that the body is going to need for detoxification. These foods which contain high fiber and water, that is going to help to eliminate toxins, by helping you to have more bowel movements and urination.

Why do people go on a Detox diet?

This what happens. As we go through our daily lives we ingest chemicals through the food, water and air and these chemicals become deposited in our fat cells. A diet that lacks certain nutrients can impair the bodies ability to detoxify these chemicals. This then leads to a build up in our bodies.

When this build up becomes to great “body burden” can lead to many different illnesses such as:

  • hormone imbalance
  • impaired immune function
  • nutritional deficiency
  • metabolism problems
  • indigestion
  • bad breath
  • fatigue
  • poor skin
  • muscle pain

What are the benefits of a detox diet?

People who have gotten on a body detox diet have noticed a variety of improvements. Some of those things are:

  • improved energy
  • clear skin
  • regular bowel movements
  • improved digestion
  • improved concentration
  • clarity

Who should not be thinking of a detox diet?

There are a whole list of people and people with different medical problems that should not be going on a detox diet. Some of these people are as follows. If you are pregnant or nursing and children shouldn’t go on a detox diet. People who have the following should not go on a detox diet:

  • anemia
  • diabetes
  • eating disorder
  • autoimmune disease
  • cancer
  • kidney disease
  • thyroid disease
  • and there many others.
